The recently completed renovation and expansion of the former Sears building at Market Commons into a luxury loft style office building was awarded LEED Gold certification. Designed by Antunovich Associates and developed by Regency Centers, this project brings a much-needed update to a prominent corner of the Market Commons in Clarendon.
Originally built in 1942 as a Sears department store, the 2 and 3 story office building and ground floor retail was in decline. The transformation into a Class A office building includes the reconstruction of the original building structure with an additional 4th floor. The ground floor retail was incorporated into the design maintaining the largely pedestrian atmosphere of The Loop. The larger and more flexible building floor plan features high ceilings, large windows, private balconies with panoramic views of the Washington, DC.
The renovations of the building were completed in November and the building was certified LEED Gold in December 2020.
